Toughest Household Chore

This post is dedicated to my wife, it’s her birthday today. I love you Sarah!

imageI’ve never been really helpful around the house. I mean, I can jump into a task and dedicate myself to it, and make a finished product out of it but as for an ongoing job I take pride in, I’m guilty there. Having said that, I’m pretty good at picking up/making a room look presentable. I’m okay at dishes, and I’m the pool guy at our house. Having said THAT I really hate the idea of cleaning the garage. It stacks up so fast in our family that it requires some extra planning and “umph” to get it going. Usually the whole family is required to get it really spotless. I must say that is an awesome payoff. You never know what a garage can do for you until it’s clean and spacious.

I’ve always had this running question in my head since I first started doing chores in my family of origin: “Does it require more energy to sporadically clean after things have really gotten bad, or to clean every day and always keep things up.” Thankfully for me, my family members are all not perfectionists that way. My wife is one of the cleanest people I have ever known but she’s not fanatical. We all like the house to be picked up and clean but we’re not going to assault anyone for leaving a shoe out. Like so many things in life, there should be a balance. I remember reading a proverb that said:

Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.

I agree with that. Peace and love in the home is worth more than a spotless home. By the same token, I’m always trying to find that balance. Add to the garage, our home office downstairs. It’s in need of decluttering as well. Maybe I should start it. Of course, Hoarders is on Netflix. I could always binge watch that and feel exonerated, like I am nothing compared to those poor folks ๐Ÿ™‚
