For some reason, I have always ended up on the side of teacher in my life. Whether I am with a group navigating a map in a foreign region or at work teaching kids to be better readers. The downside of this is that it bleeds through all roles of my life and I fear I appear like a “know it all.” I don’t see myself that way, in fact I need lots of help. I think I simply hae the ability to assimilate new information, master it and make it my own. You might say it’s a blessing and a curse.

I’ve taught many people how to do hundreds of things over the years. It’s hard to know when to take them out of the frying pan and into the fire. There are those who say “sink or swim” training is the best there is and to an extent I would agree. That seems to be the way I learn best. But I need some comfort as I am learning a new skill. I think we need to give people that same comfort when we are teaching them. Still, we must always remember there is a point where you must take them out of the frying pan and put them into the fire. Otherwise, they will never enjoy mastery as you have.
