I can’t believe it’s finally here! The David Gilmour concert is tomorrow night at the world famous Hollywood Bowl. I first started listening to Pink Floyd in High School at the recommendation of some of my friends Right away I was drawn to Gilmour’s bluesy, well chosen note solos. It was in the mid eighties when guitarists like Eddie Van Halen were shredding nanosecond note solos all over MTV. David Gilmour made his guitar sing with stretches, blues scales, and tremolo artistry. Probably the first solo I connected with was “Wish You Were Here.” I played it on my acoustic and learned it note for note. After that came the “Animals” album and soon I was playing along with all their albums note for note. Well, Mr. Gilmour is 70 now and I’ve seen him twice before in the Pink Floyd lineup. Tomorrow will be his band playing Floyd classics and some of his new stuff off his new solo album. It’s going to be a blast. I’m taking my 11 year old daughter with me. She a backseat fan of Floyd since birth.
